How to Make your Own Monogram Wall Art | Seamlined Living

In 2017, one of my goals has been to find time to be creative. I’ve made a point to be more intentional about taking time to be creative – whether it’s finding the time to sew, learn new makeup hacks, braid, craft or go on adventures with my little one. So, as a reminder to keep this goal in the forefront of my mind, I decided to create a banner that says: “create”. Simple enough, right? For this project, I used paper mache letters and artificial succulents to make monogram wall art for my craft room. It was pretty simple and didn’t take much time to create. (Pun intended!)

The first thing I did was gather the materials I needed to make the wall art. I researched where to find the supplies and went to a bunch of local craft supply stores in my area. I discovered Hobby Lobby had the best supply of artificial succulents that looked the most realistic. There are also a number of places you can buy them online. Here are a couple of links: Michaels, Save on Crafts, Amazon, Etsy

When I first started this project, I imagined each letter requiring several larger succulents, but as I began to assemble them, I found that the smaller succulents and moss worked best to create the type of look that I desired.

    • Step 1: cut the top face off of each of the letters
You can do this with an exacto knife, box cutter or scissors. I found that once I made a hole in the top of the cardboard, the top portion easily peeled off
    • Step 2: cut the floral foam to fill the inside of each of the letters and fill the letters with the floral foam
      • Optional: place hot glue at the bottom of the floral foam to help keep it in place
    • Step 3: place the moss where you’d like it to be in the letter and glue it down with the hot glue gun.
    • Step 4: cut the stems of the succulents and/or flowers and place them in various spots on the letters. I used a variety of succulents to help create depth, dimension and a different look for each of the letters.

  • Step 5: place command strips on the back of the letter so you can easily hang up and/or remove the letters from the wall. I recommend the velcro-type command strips, so you don’t have to leave the pull tabs visible.
