I love finding good deals, especially when it comes to fabric! A few weeks ago I went to my local GoodWill store and found non-traditional yards of fabric in the forms of a shower curtain and bed sheets. The material was stunning, lightweight, silky and you couldn’t beat the price of $4! I knew I could sew something great with this material and quickly decided to make a high-low pleated skirt.

Materials for your High-Low Skirt DIY:

  • 2 yards of Fabric (I used a shower curtain I picked up at GoodWill!)
  • Matching Thread
  • Invisible zipper
  • Fusible Interfacing

Even though I used a shower curtain from my local GoodWill, you can easily recreate this skirt by purchasing new fabric. Before you start the steps below, measure and cut out the material for your project. To have enough material for the pleats of your skirt, measure your waist and multiply that number by two.

Directions for Making a High-Low Skirt

  1. Fold and pin 2.5 inch box pleats across the waistline of your skirt. After the pins are in place, add a baste stitch across the pleats to hold them in place.
  2. Adding interfacing to your waistband will give it more structure. Follow the instructions on your fusible interfacing and attach it to your waistband.
  3. With right sides facing out, fold your waistband in half and iron
  4. Pin the waistband and skirt body with right sides of the fabric together and sew.
  5. Next, attach and sew your invisible zipper to the back of your skirt. Continue your stitch down the rest of your skirt to close the back of the skirt.
  6. Lay your skirt on the floor and cut a diagonal line to create your high low skirt.
Hem the end of your skirt and you’re done!
