Have you heard of BoxyCharm? If you’re into makeup or subscription boxes, chances are you’ve heard of this subscription service. BoxyCharm is a monthly subscription box that sends you four to five full-sized products each month for $21. Included in each box is over $100 value of beauty products, making each box up to 80% off retail price. But are the boxes worth it? I tried the subscription for three months and will let you know my thoughts below.
BoxyCharm Box #1: November 2018
November’s Theme: Gold Digger
Total Value: $113.99
Products I Received:
- CoverFX Glitter Drops – Nova: MSRP: $44
- Ace Beauty, Grandiose Palette: MSRP: $24.99
- Luxie Luminous Eye Set: MSRP: $21.00
- Farah Galaxy Gold Tweezers: MSRP: $12.00
- Bodyography Makeup Brush Cleaner: MSRP: $12.00
Final thoughts on box #1.
Out of the three boxes, I received this one was my favorite. The tweezers are amazing, and I use the Luxie brushes everytime I wear eyeshadow. I have also enjoyed the Ace Beauty eye shadow palette. This palette is unlike anything that I have in my collection, and I’ve been having fun playing with the deeper eyeshadows!
BoxyCharm Box #2: December 2018
December’s Theme: Tis the Season
Total Value: $175
Products I Received:
- Tarte Glitter Lip Paint: MSRP: $20.00
- Chella Beauty Eyebrow Cream: MSRP: $26.00
- Marajo Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum Capsules: MSRP: $28.00
- Wander Beauty Dusk to Dawn Blush & Highlight Palette: MSRP: $26.00
- PYT Mini Hair Straightener: MSRP: $75.00
Final thoughts on box #2
Even though this box was the highest value out of all of the boxes I received, it was my least favorite, and I have barely used any of the products. I will say that I have been loving the anti-frizz smoothing serum, and plan to test out some of the other products once I work through some of my makeup collection.
BoxyCharm Box #3: January 2019
January’s Theme: Boxy and Chill
Total Value: $121
Products I Received:
- Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Strength + Moisture Leave-In Mask, 2oz: MSRP: $16.00
- Tarte Limited-Edition Rainforest of the Sea Highlighting Eyeshadow Palette Vol. III: MSRP: $36.00
- Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Pencil: MSRP: $19.00
- Tatcha Luminous Dexy Skin Face Mask (2 Pack): MSRP: $24.00
- BITE Beauty Amuse Bouche: MSRP: $26.00
Final thoughts on box #3
I have been eyeing this Tarte palette for a while and was excited when it arrived in my BoxyCharm! The colors are perfect and work well on my fair skin. I have found that these shadows work better when you apply them with your finger (which is great for quick makeup days). I haven’t had a chance to test out the Briogeo and Tacha products, but I’m looking forward to trying them! Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the colors of the Bite Beauty lipstick and Starlooks products. (Too deep/bold for me) Even though I might not use two of the products, my cost is much less than the products I received!

Keep an eye out for upcoming spoilers. BoxyCharm using releases a couple of spoilers before the first of the month. If you don’t like what you see you can always cancel before your subscription gets renewed for the next month. There are also a few subscription sites that will list out the spoilers as they’re released or identified!

Is BoxyCharm worth it? Will I be keeping my subscription?
Receiving products at such a deep discount has been a lot of fun! Even if I only loved one to two products in each box, I thought I was getting my money’s worth. This subscription box is perfect for makeup newbies because it allows you to grow your collection with high-end makeup without the cost of going to Sephora, Ulta or other high-end stores. The drawback is you aren’t able to select what’s in your box and each month’s box has multiple variations. Another drawback or bonus is your makeup collection grows rather quickly, so you may need to find new ways to store your makeup. (No worries, there are a lot of great ideas on Pinterest!)
Am I keeping my subscription? At this time, I am not. Although I LOVED receiving my box the past couple of months, I have decided to try to work through my makeup collection before I purchase any new products. Once I make a dent in my current makeup, I can see myself subscribing again!
