Have you struggled to find the perfect bed skirt? Maybe it’s not the right length, color, or all of the above. For me, my answer is all of the above. For years I have wanted to have a bed skirt on our bed, but I couldn’t find a style that I liked or one that fit our bed. (We have an extended queen bed and there aren’t a lot of options on the market) But recently I decided to finally make one and it only took me 3 or so hours from start to finish!

Instructions for a DIY Extended Queen Bed Skirt (Or Any Size Bed)
When I finally decided to make a bed skirt, I wanted it to be simple since our bed spread has a busy pattern so I selected a cream colored fabric with a trim that matched. This project can be completed with any fabric pattern or color to match the style of your room.

- Take Measurements: Before you begin or purchase your fabric, take measurements of your bed. You’ll want to measure the length and the height of your bed and add 2-3 inches to the height.
- Depending on the width of your fabric and the height of your bed, you should be able to cut your fabric in half or into three sections. It will be important to know this before you purchase your fabric because if you can cut multiple panels from your length that will save you money on your project!
- Cut Your Fabric: Once you have your measurements, you’ll want to layout your fabric and cut to the length and height needed for your 3 fabric panels.
- Cut Your Fabric Trim: Prep your fabric trim by cutting it to the length you need for your bed skirt. I decided I only wanted half of the trim piece showing, so I cut my trim in half
- Prep Your Work Space: Turn on your iron and set up your work space
- Hem Your Bed Skirt: Easily hem your bed skirt by using hem tape. (Follow the manufacturer’s instructions) First fold the height side of your fabric and fuse the fabric together. Once the sides of your panels are fused together, lay out the fabric trim and iron the material to the bottom of your bed skirt. Repeat these steps for all 3 panels.
- Install Your Bed Skirt: Once you’ve finished your panels, you can quickly add them to your bed! To do this, lift up your top mattress and place the fabric between your mattress and box spring. It’s as simple as that! The weight of the mattress will hold your bed skirt in place!
I love how this simple bed skirt turned out and how quickly I was able to complete the project!
