Big bows, headbands, and bobby pins can quickly transform a simple hairstyle and add dimension to your look. That is why I love these DIY gold bobby pins – they are a subtle accessory that can add so much to your look. This project is unique and completely customizable depending on the pieces you find to create your bobby pins!
Supplies for Your DIY Gold Bobby Pins
- Gorilla Glue
- Gold Bobby Pins (purchase them online – or spray paint ones you already have!)
- Old Pieces of Jewelry (earrings, pins, necklaces)
- Paper plate
Start by purchasing supplies at a local craft store, thrift store, flea market or online. A great place to find jewelry for this project is to look for items at thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales! I love that you can find so many unique, one of a kind pieces of jewelry.
Steps to Create Your Gold Bobby Pins
- Lay out your jewelry and determine which parts of your jewelry you’ll want to turn into bobby pins.
- Remove any backing from your jewelry pieces so they lay flat.
- I.e. remove the posts on earrings or the back of a pin.
- Assort your pins on a paper plate
- Take gorilla glue and place a drop on the back of your bobby pin. Next, place and hold your piece of jewelry to the glue for 10-15 seconds.
- Lay your bobby pin flat and allow to dry for 24 hours.
This craft is super quick and easy. There are so many ways you can style your hair with your new gold bobby pins. Add your bobby pins to a braid, pin back your hair or any way you see fit!
Styling Tip: When you put your bobby pin in your hair, I recommend opening the bobby pin up and sliding it in from the front of the bobby pin. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the glued piece.
I love this DIY idea! I crochet, so I love to mix it up with crafts that are sweet and simple.
