I used to be overwhelmed when I thought about creating a capsule wardrobe, and I know I’m not alone. There were days I’d open up my closet, stare at my very full shelves, and think – I have nothing to wear. Although that wasn’t true, I was in a rut and wasn’t taking full advantage of my closet. Just the thought about limited my wardrobe to a few hand-selected items sounded ludicrous to me.
What shifted for me? I tried a capsule wardrobe for a month and loved it. I am now able to narrow down and wear only the pieces I love and work well for me each season.
If you’re not ready to purge your clothes, store them or move them to a section of your closet that’s not visible. Remember, this is a process, and everyone moves at their own pace.
Benefits of a Capsule Wardrobe
For me, capsule wardrobes have saved me:
- time
- money and
- mental space for the things that I care about
How does this save time and mental space?
I go to one section of my closet and can quickly mix and match items. I know that I love how these clothes look on me, so I don’t have to think twice about if I want to wear them.
How does this save money?
Well, you purchase or make clothing at the beginning of the season. After that, you don’t have to worry about spending any more money or time on clothing for the next few months. At first, I thought it would be difficult to not aimlessly wonder the women’s section in Target, but after almost a year of not buying clothing in stores (I make most of mine), I don’t think twice about walking past.
