Welcome back to part 2 in my dry shampoo testing series! Did you know that it’s beneficial to your scalp to not wash your hair every day? Not only will it save you time in the morning, but skipping a few days allows your natural oils to be released and your scalp to balance. I am all about saving time in my morning routine and my goal with this series is to find the ultimate drugstore shampoo to use and recommend. For each test, I will be washing my hair on Friday and will be styling and use dry shampoo until the following Friday. The first dry shampoo I tested was Batiste’s Dry Shampoo and the next one I will be testing is Hask’s.
Testing Out Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo – Scent Warm Sugar
Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo comes in a variety of scents, but the one I use is in the scent warm sugar. To me, the scent is rather strong, so if you’re not a fan of scented hair products, I’d recommend purchasing either their original or unscented version. So how is this dry shampoo supposed to perform? According to the description on Ulta’s website, Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo will absorb excess oils and will get your hair ready for a night on the town. The description leads me to believe they don’t recommend using this product more than a couple of days in a row … but I tested it for a week. So here we go …
Friday – Day 1:
I washed my hair and used Loreal’s new product Elvive (This was a free product sent to me to test. Are you interested in receiving free products to test? Sign up for Influenster here. )
Saturday/Sunday – Days 2 & 3:
I didn’t use dry shampoo on either of these days.
Monday – Day 4:
I used a small amount of dry shampoo and pulled my hair half up. The dry shampoo didn’t add too much texture to my hair and it still felt clean.
Tuesday – Day 5:
On Tuesday I wore my hair down and added more dry shampoo to my hair. This added a little more texture to my hair and my hair started to feel heavy and weighted down.
Wednesday – Day 6:
I didn’t add any additional dry shampoo on day 7 and I wore my hair ½ up with a braid.
Thursday – Day 7:
On day 7 I really wanted to wash my hair, but instead, I applied more dry shampoo and braided my hair into mixed braid pigtails. The dry shampoo was still absorbing the oil from my hair, but my hair started to feel heavy and I could tell I had used a lot of dry shampoo.
Friday – Day 8:
I made it to Friday! Yay! For this photo, I did not add any more dry shampoo to my hair. Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo had done a great job absorbing the oils of my hair, but by day 8 it had left my hair feeling heavy and I was eager to wash it.
After Testing Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo Would I Recommend It?
I have been using this dry shampoo for years and I have enjoyed using it. It absorbs the oil and does what it claims. But it wasn’t until I tested it for a full week that I realized how much weight this product adds to my hair. I will probably still use it from time to time, but I have new found favorites from testing out dry shampoos in this series.
The next dry shampoo in this series is Hask’s Dry Shampoo, so make sure to check back to see my review! At the end of this series, I will be comparing all of the shampoos and listing out my favorites! If you want to be notified when it’s posted, follow me on Instagram and I will be giving updates!
