One of my favorite hobbies has quickly become finding affordable and unconventional fabric from thrift stores to repurpose. This dress is a perfect example of that because before it was a dress, it was a shower curtain. I immediately fell in love with the print of the shower curtain and had envisioned making it into a modified Seren Dress by Tilly and the Buttons.
There are two standard pattern options for the Seren dress
- A tied crop top with a midi or knee length skirt
- A midi or knee-length dress with a flounce top
How to Make Pattern Adjustments
The sketch and measurements below are for a size 6. Here’s how to adjust the dress pattern to match your measurements:
- Increase the measurements based on the differences between the size increments on the pattern.
- Learn how to sketch and create sewing patterns by reading this blog post here.
What You Need to Make Your Modified Seren Dress
- Material: 3 yards of fabric (I used a shower curtain)
Pattern: Tilly and the Buttons, Seren Dress Pattern, plus my modified pattern pieces below - Notions: 14 – 16 buttons, Matching Thread, fusible interfacing

Seren Pattern Adjustments
I had already used this pattern to make a summer dress but knew I wanted to sew with it again. If you’re interested in learning more about what my thoughts are on the pattern, you can read my blog post on Minerva Craft’s website.
For this dress, I modified the following:
- Changed the BODICE FRONT in a v-neck
- Added a full BODICE BACK
- I included sleeves
- I adjusted the interfacing for the BODICE FRONT and BACK to match the new pattern
To modify the dress to include sleeves, you can still follow the Seren Dress instructions, but you’ll need to reference the image below to make the BODICE adjustments.
